President Mr. Nicos Anastasiades said that Cyprus will turn the page in 2015

“As we enter the year 2015, Cyprus turns over a new leaf and enters a new era,” the President of the Republic, Nicos Anastasiades, stated in his televised New Year’s message to the people of Cyprus.

In his speech, the President noted that, as a result of the sacrifices made by the island’s citizens, and the administration’s implementation of its economic adjustment programme, “we can say that the year 2014 can be characterized as the year of the stabilization and the restoration of the financial credibility of the state.”

The consolidation and revival of Cyprus’ banking system are yet further achievements of 2014, he continued, which ultimately led to the successful participation of the financial sector in the recent pan-European stress tests.

“The economy is now stabilized. Cyprus has returned to the markets. Our financial system has been consolidated and made great progress,” Anastasiades continued. “International Rating Agencies as well as our international lenders are finally evaluating Cypriot banks and our economy at large with continuous positive grades.”

Finally, of the Cyprus problem, the President commented: “We are determined to achieve peace, which will safeguard - through the parameters that have been agreed - the respect for human rights, the European principles and values.”
