Cyprus the best coastal bathing site in Europe

The Mediterranean island's tourism industry on Tuesday got a major boost after an EU report said Cyprus is the bloc's best coastal bathing site.Tourism revenues are on the rise in recession-hit Cyprus but the 'excellent' bathing waters news further raised hopes that the sector will ease the economy out of the crisis.

Agriculture and Natural Resources Minister Nicos Kouyialis said the quality of Cyprus' beaches was especially important as they significantly contribute to tourism and the country's economy."This achievement is not coincidental," he also said.And he added: "It's the result of continuous efforts of all involved, including non-governmental environment organizations, state services, local administration but also citizens".

In Cyprus, 112 beaches were assessed for water quality.All of Cyprus' bathing sites were deemed "excellent", followed by Malta, Croatia and Greece.
