TOURISM stakeholders in Paphos are pushing forward with plans to promote the district abroad as al year-round tourist destination.

Head of the Paphos regional board of tourism, Nasos Hadjigeorgiou, told the Sunday Mail that concerted efforts are underway to ease seasonality and include the promotion of Paphos abroad.

“We are preparing to participate in one of the largest tourism fairs in Europe, the WTM (World travel market) a London exhibition from 6-8 November. We will get to see the planning of various companies and airlines to get a better idea of next summer season,” he said.
The following week, November 13-16, the tourism board will participate in workshops and presentations held by the Cyprus Tourism Organisation- CTO- in four cities in Poland; Krakow, Katowice, Poznan and Warsaw, and more than one hundred and fifty travel agents are expected to participate.Dozens of hoteliers from Paphos will participate, and during the exhibition meetings will be held with tourist agents and promotional material relating to Paphos as a destination will be distributed to tour operators and thousands of visitors to the exhibition, he added.

The Paphos regional board of tourism is also planning a series of specialised workshops and presentations in the Baltic area from 12-15 December. These will get underway in the cities of Riga-Latvia and Tallinn-Estonia.

“These workshops are part of the supportive efforts that we are giving to Ryanair’s new flights to the area which will get underway from Paphos on April 1st, 2018,” he said.

Although there are already air connections in place to the Baltic area from Larnaca, direct flights from Paphos will commence next year and will include: Bratislava, Bucharest, Budapest, Dublin, Riga, Sofia and Tallinn, he said.

Last week, the tourism board hosted a Ryanair film crew that were in Paphos to shoot a promotional video of the area. “We provided accommodation, transfers and guides,” he said.

Next month, further efforts by the hoteliers, local authorities and the tourism board will get underway and will include participation in other workshops and exhibitions, in addition visiting journalists and travel agents will be accommodated, he said.

“This is all part of our strategic aim to make Paphos fully operational all year round,” he noted, adding that there are indications that hotels remaining open during the winter period this year will experience increased occupancy, and that more will remain open next year.
